Wikis

There are many similarities and differences between blogs, wikispaces and websites. Below is a graphical representation of these similarities and differences. Wikis are an effective tool to get students more involved in thier own learning. Not only can they be fun to use, the interaction with other peers gives students incentive to expand their learning experiences. By collaboratively designing and upkeeping their wiki space, students have to chance to develop thier group working skills.

Please visit my wikispace to learn more about the different aspects of using a wikispace.

Concept mapping for learning

The use of concept mapping is underpinned by Cognitivism. Below are some examples of a Cognitivist approach to storing information using digital tools.

Here is a concept map that was designed around the learning theriosts.

Classroom blogs

A blog in the classroom would be an effective means for students to visually interpret information. Using the hands on approach of technology, students can read about, watch short clips and view photos on the topic chosen by the learning manager.

Whether it is set up by and maintained by the learning manager as a tool for students to gather information, developed as a whole class activity and updated together or individual student blogs, the opportunities to use this style in the classroom is endless. Even just thinking now, I can see this tool being used in a science experiment, as a whole class blog entering daily journal entries regarding the results of the experiment, or as a tool for individual assessment.

In the teaching context, I feel that the use of blogs in the classroom would be an effective tool for learning managers to utilize.
